Guatape: Ascend El Peñol, Embrace Zócalos, Unforgettable Day!

I was intimated by this experience as I have a bad knee and I wasn’t planning on doing the climb but friends that I met on the bus encouraged me to do it and motivated me all the way up! I’m so glad that I did it but I took my time. Once at the top it was worth the wait. Just make sure and take a bottle of water with you and sip it while you’re climbing. You can always get more once you’re at the top!

Guatapé is worth of visiting BUT not with this company! The tour guide Andres DOESNT speak English! He can’t explain the BAISC history stuff in English, period smh This tour is pretty much just transporting you from point A to point B.

Everything from start to finish was perfect but I was nervous because I have celiacs disease and I’m allergic to gluten but they were able to acomódate me

What a great trip! Food and experience were amazing. tour guide (Andres) was super nice. We visited the beautiful Guatapé municipality, loved that it included comfortable transport, breakfast, lunch. Long day trip! Prep accordingly. Would repeat!

Guatape/Peñol is a great day trip from Medellin! And this tour is a good value for getting transport and meals. We did have a modified day which was a bit frustrating. We found out the day before it was leaving an hour earlier at 6am due to a bike race, which was challenging but I guess better than sitting in traffic. We waited around a while to leave and then stopped to pick up another group. But what was frustrating was that it completely changed the itinerary order without any communication. The tour was to stop tour in Marinilla for breakfast and then drive more, go to climb Peñol, do a relaxing boat tour for recovery, have lunch, enjoy Guatape, and go back to Medellin. Instead we went all the way to Guatape with no stops, walked around, got a late breakfast, did a boat ride, walked around Guatape, had lunch too soon after breakfast, and right when people were sleepy on the bus and heat was at its peak outside… went to go climb the rock. And then made an unadvertised stop on the way home for a llama farm with more shops even tho we had just used the bathrooms at Peñol 20 mins ago. Additionally, the guide was very challenging to hear and it was very obvious she was saying a lot more in Spanish and then giving a rushed Cliffs Notes version in English (confirmed by a bilingual) so I didn’t learn too much. Meals were not great and coffee was horrible, but I appreciated that it included breakfast and vegetarian options. In retrospect I may have gone with another company (I picked this one bc it said it left later & didn’t stop at llama farm… both of which ended up being untrue) but for the low price, I got the value I needed in round-trip transportation.

I had an excellent time visiting Guatapé, this tour is absolutely worth every penny. Our tour guide, Carlos Carmona, was outstanding. He was extremely knowledgeable and shared the history behind every place we visited in a way that was both interesting and easy to understand. Carlos gave clear instructions, explained the itinerary, and set expectations from the beginning. Thanks to him, we were always on time and the entire trip was very well organized. He was friendly, professional, and kept everything running smoothly from start to finish. If you’re looking for a full-day experience where you truly get your money’s worth, this is the perfect tour. You get to see La Piedra del Peñol, enjoy a boat ride, and visit the beautiful town of Guatapé. Plus, breakfast and lunch are included. The only extra cost was the entrance to climb El Peñol, which was $7 worth it for the views. I really appreciated having Carlos as our guide; he did an excellent job and made the experience unforgettable. I highly recommend this tour. Just keep in mind that the trip may take longer because of traffic, especially on the way back, but it is absolutely worth it.

My partner and I had the most amazing day! Was a great tour, well organised, food was great, tour included everything we needed. And a shout out to our amazing tour guide Carlos Carmona, so knowledgeable and fun! it was so nice to go on a tour that all the information was also in English so we didnt miss out on anything. Highly recommend this tour!

The trip was fun and a full day of activity. The breakfast and lunch provided was tasty and filling.

There was some delay due to a bicycle marathon. Our tour guide Carlos was very tentative to our needs and concerns, he address them accordingly. His passion was contagious which makes the tour a great experience.
