Sacred Java Journey: Temples, Sunrise & Volcano Thrills

The temples are truly the highlight — incredibly beautiful, fascinating, and full of atmosphere. The visit to Mount Merapi by jeep was nice, but nothing extraordinary in my opinion, especially if you're traveling alone. Unfortunately, the volcano was completely covered by clouds, so it ended up being more of a short nature trip outside the city. The off-road part was quite limited as well. The jeep drivers are very competent, even if the condition of the jeeps might worry you at first. Bhimo, the driver who picked me up from the hotel, was very friendly, helpful, and a highly skilled driver ;) Thanks to him, we spent as little time as possible stuck in traffic. Overall, I would recommend this tour for anyone who wants to visit multiple attractions in one day without having to worry about tickets or logistics, since everything was already included in the package.

We booked this tour, as we wanted to go to the famous sights in one day, along with our tight schedule. I was going with my father and we want something hassel free. This is why we picked this tour. Our driver Eko is very friendly. He communicated with me a day ahead, arrived to pick us up on time, and he made sure that we are okay before we went to the temples and the volcano. The temples are amazing. Nice to know plenty of the history. I guess people should come once in a lifetime. Although it was unfortunate the weather was cloudy and we could not see the volcano, at least we got to feel the power and beauty around the Merapi. Highly recommend!!

Today, our lovely tour guide Miko brought my cousin and I from the hotel (which was 30 minutes from the city centre) to the Borobudur, the Merapi Vulcano and the Prambanan temples. It was amazing! He made sure we had everything we needed and were on time at all locations. Furthermore he drove us to an amazing restaurant for lunch nearby the Prambanan temples & recommended we try the famous luwak coffee as our last stop before we went back to the hotel. Overall, the tour was amazing and took up a whole day - but the time flew by. We had so much fun! Therefore, I would recommend taking this tour if you want to fill your day with exploring Yogya’s heritage. :) Having Miko as a driver also added to this experience: he is a very friendly, funny person, and always on time! One last tip: if you’re doing the Merapi Jeep ride on a cloudy day: go for the river-route instead of the bunker. You might get wet. ;)

The organization was perfect and everything in the day went smoothly, we did not have to worry about anything apart from enjoying the activities. Our driver was Fajar and we had a really fun time together! He was really friendly and we spoke about Indonesian culture, knowledge and life in general, great atmosphere to make the rides pass by faster! Fajar was perfectly on time and made sure all was clear for us at the temples, accompanying us to the temple guides and getting us in practical meet-up points. He also brought several water bottles and was open to make various stops if we needed to. We really had a great time. Highly recommended!!

I recommend doing the tour of the temples with the volcano, it was very fun and definitely stunning. We were lucky that the sky was clear and we got to see the volcano completely. The temples are amazing as well. Borobudur has it’s own guides and you go up in groups. Prambanan has the guide as optional but we didn’t get it. It has a large garden area and 2 more temples inside. Pras was our tour guide and he gave us a lot of information, was kind and funny! Thank you everything!
