This was one of the best walking tours we have joined. It covered the fall of the Austro-Hungarian empire up through modern day. We got details and stories on each time period and were able to ask questions throughout. Darko is a phenomenal guide and it was easy to see his passion for the subject matter. He added in some dry humor, which is very much our style, but he was also honest and compassionate and really pushed us to consider all sides and perspectives of each conflict. It got quite emotional at the end and we felt very impacted by our experience here. This should be the #1 thing you do in Zagreb. Thank you, Darko, for being such a great teacher and being open to sharing your perspectives and experiences.

Fantastic and very knowledgeable guide. We were a small group guided by Kristina who grew up in Zagreb and whose family's history is linked with the recent history of the country. The tour's point of view was quite neutral about the Yougoslavian war, however adding elements from her personal experience made it outstanding. We exceeded the usual tour length as the group was deeply interested in knowing more about and Kristina took pleasure and shared additional insights. Highly recommended! You can pay by card, although it's good to have some spare € for the tip.

Kristina's knowledge and recounts of personal experience were fantastic and the content of the tour, including the bunker, was really fascinating. Definitely worth the money.

Diana was an enthusiastic guide who answered all our questions. Without a history museum or memorial in town, this is the best way to learn how Croatia has been shaped by war and politics over the last century. Pics of Tito and Sophia Loren were among the highlights!

This is a serious scholarly tour of instruction in modern Croatian and Balkan history, from World War I through the Croatian war of national liberation 1990-1995. It is not for the casual tourist, but the intellectually serious visitor will learn the famous names, political parties, and tragedies of Croatia and its neighbors in our time.
