Munich to Eagle's Nest: Alpine History & Breathtaking Views
Embark on a full-day coach trip from Munich to the Berchtesgaden Mountains, home to Hitler’s mountain retreat and the former southern headquarters of the Nazi Party. Visit Eagle’s Nest(Kehlsteinhaus),a mountaintop lodge built by the Nazis as a gift for Hitler. Perched dramatically at 6,148 feet(1,834 meters)on Mt. Kehlstein, this historic site offers some of the most breathtaking views of the Alps in all of Germany. Ironically, Hitler rarely visited the lodge, as he suffered from vertigo and was uncomfortable with heights. Eagle’s Nest is only open from May through the end of October, depending on weather conditions.

Ursula was our Tour guide, and we have never been so captivated by all her stories and explanations making the experience incredible. You can see how passionate she is and how much she loves her city Munich! We just landed the day before the tour after 24h in 2 planes, but her enthusiasm easily kept us awake for the whole 2-hour drive. We were lucky enough that the snow melted the week we went so we could go to the Eagle's Nest! We both have bad knees, so did not do all the hikes with Ursula, who is so fit! But we recommend it! The landscape is amazing, and the stories even better! On the drive back, Ursula kindly let all of us have a rest after all the excitement, with no more comments or explanations, and kindly just woke us up with the sound of a small cow bell when we were back in Munich! Loved it!

A bit of a long bus ride from Munich, about 2 hours. There is a toilet on the bus and an option to purchase beer on the bus. Use the toilet on the bus before getting off to go up to the Eagles Nest because there isn’t much time to waste before ascending to the summit to the Eagles Nest. Absolutely beautiful views at the top and a great restaurant at the top as well.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and informative throughout the tour. The bus ride was very scenic. We would have enjoyed more time to explore the the museum and bunkers at Berchtesgaden. Skipping lunch at the restaurant and acking snacks or a lunch to avoid the lunch delay would have allowed us sufficient time explore both the bunkers and museum. Overall we enjoyed the tour.

Ursula was a great guide, as well as the bus driver. We were not able to make it to the Eagles Nest which was a huge disappointment, the reason for the trip. I wish Viator had informed us, and I probably wouldn't have gone. We drove 2 hours there and back, only to go to the Documentation Centre. Most of the centre is reading signs, which I can do on the internet. The bunkers were cool.

Wonderful to see history from this vantage point. The most beautiful place in the world yet many of the most deplorable acts and decisions made there are deplorable.

Fantastic tour and guide — excellent weather. Truly a wonderful place and experience. Well planned and very organized. Very knowledgeable tour guide Beatriz. She’s very nice.

Eagles nest was closed. They didn’t not confirm this until we were on the bus 30 minutes. They replaced eagles nest with the salt mines. This was a fun activity but we had 2 in our group with claustrophobia. They would never have been able to participate in the salt mines. They spent all day on a bus to do nothing

Great trip, very interesting. Johnny, the tour guide was informative & gave lots of interesting facts & information on the way through Munich and on the journey as well as at the Eagles Nest. The Document Centre was very well done & the bunkers were a real eye opener. I would have given the experience a higher mark but unfortunately I was charged twice for the Eagles Nest shuttle bus/visit. The guide takes payment for 35 Euro per person on the bus, the connection wasn't great & it looked as though the payment for 2 people hadn't gone through, the payment couldn't have been cancelled properly when I paid again on another card, so I was charged 70 Euro by both Banks. I contacted the bus Comapny where the payment had gone, they replied immediately & sent a nice email to apologise, asked me to contact Viator & they would refund. I have e-mailed Viator Customer Services, but a few days later haven't received a response. The guide said there are often issues with taking payments on the move, but there isn't an option to pay in cash, so maybe the payment should be taken at the time of booking. As this must happen regularly, I'm disappointed Viator haven't responded & rectified immediately.
